Photography Prints Envisioned

I have been looking for new and creative ways to display my work.  My budget and storage space does not allow for printing everything at will and without a storefront to display work or a gallery partnership to hang pieces it's difficult to properly display a final product.  Viewing a digital portfolio provides a convenient platform for browsing, but it does not help convey what a final framed print or canvas might actually look like.
Once pieces are hung and become part of a space their presence can completely alter the mood and atmosphere of a room.  Size can have a significant influence as well, transforming a piece from "that small photo I liked and put on my wall" to something that completely envelopes a viewer, drawing interest and intrigue from anyone in it's presence.
I had seen digitally superimposed displays put together by other photographers before and decided to adopt this technique for myself to help display artwork in a living space.  Below are a fe…

2014 Year in Review

**2014 In Review**

Last year was full of new ventures, new products, regattas, and exhibits.  And we're expecting all that and more in the year to come!  But let's take a look back at a few of the places Cate Brown Photos travelled during 2014, starting with a few happy clients and their new custom prints!

Not to mention the sailing editorials featuring Cate Brown Photos!

And the success of Cate's very first group workshop hosted through the Wickford Art Association, culminating in an exhibit at the Bill Krul Gallery in Narragansett.  We will be hosting another group workshop this March–April, visit the Workshop Page for more details!

And inclusion at the Artists for the Bay annual exhibit with Save the Bay:

Plus features at Local Businesses including the North Kingstown branch of Washington Trust Bank and most notably the outfitting of the entire conference room at Rhode Island Clean Water Finance Agency in Providence!

And who could forget the trip to Baja, Mexico?

New Year, New Work! Narragansett Abstracts

This month has been particularly chilly, but one afternoon between polar vortices when it was only freezing with some heavy wind compared to significantly below freezing, I was able to bundle up enough and make it to the beach.  I hadn't been shooting for myself in almost two months, between client work and end of year projects starting in November, holiday sales and a family vacation in December, it was my first day out shooting in 2015 and I was glad I made time for it!

I first went down to East Matunuck Beach where I have been meaning to go exploring for photographic opportunities, but the howling 30+ knot wind made it nearly impossible for tripod work and the sand was blowing sideways.  So, heading back north, I opted for the slightly more protected and significantly less windy location of Narragansett Beach.

There were waves that day, but the low tide made for mirror-like sand close to the water's edge as the glistening wet beach reflected the colors of the sky.  I set up…

Spring Workshop: Photo 101

This spring I will be hosting my second workshop in conjunction with the Wickford Art Association.  Titled "Photo 101:  All the Basics," we will be covering all the fundamentals in cameras, proper exposure, creativity, and Lightroom.  Learn how to use your camera, take great shots, explore your creativity and process your images all in one workshop!  We have a lot to get through so bring your notebook and pencils!
